Ways to study with us
A-LEVELS
The A-level pathway at our Middlesbrough campus is designed for students who are not ready to specialise in one art and design subject or who would prefer to keep their options open. The A-level pathway will allow students to enjoy the best art and design courses in the North East, as well as gaining academic qualifications that will provide an additional layer in their creative career prospects. To study four A-levels on an A-level pathway at The Northern School of Art, students will need five GCSEs at A* - B/9-5 including maths and English at minimum C/4 grade, plus a portfolio of artwork and evidence of written work.
UAL DIPLOMAS
At The Northern School of Art, we have a UAL Diploma to suit different levels - each of them allows the opportunity to learn and progress either onto further education, university or direct employment. All diplomas are awarded by University of the Arts London. Level 2 Diploma Entry Requirements - 4 GCSEs D/3 and a demonstration of commitment through a portfolio of work. Extended Diploma Entry Requirements (Level 3) - 4 GCSEs C/4 (including maths and English) and a demonstration of commitment through a portfolio of work.
UAL FOUNDATION DIPLOMA
Art foundation courses are for those aged over 18 years (normally post A-level students) considering a degree in art and design. With the increasing diversity of art and design related degree subjects, knowing which one is best for you is an important decision. It’s why most creative degrees recommend studying art foundation prior to commencing a degree subject after A-level study. UAL Foundation Diploma Entry Requirements - 1 A-level + 3 GCSEs (maths and English minimum C/4) and portfolio.
