STUDENT OPEN DAY FAQS...
What happens at an Open Day?
You'll have the opportunity to explore our specialist creative studios, see student work, meet tutors and current students, and ask any questions about the courses you're interested in. You can take your time looking around campus and get a real feel for what it's like to study here.
I'm not sure which course is right for me. Can someone help?
Yes. Our tutors and Student Recruitment team will be available throughout the day to talk about your interests, GCSE subjects and future career goals, helping you find the creative course that's right for you.
Can I apply at the Open Day?
Absolutely. If you're ready to apply, our Student Recruitment team can guide you through the application process, answer any questions and explain what happens next.
Do I need to bring a portfolio?
No. A portfolio isn't required to attend an Open Day. If you already have artwork you'd like to show a tutor, you're welcome to bring it along for informal advice, but there's no expectation to do so.
Can I see the studios and workshops?
Yes. Our specialist creative studios and workshops will be open throughout the day, giving you the chance to explore the facilities, equipment and learning spaces you'll use as a student.
PARENT & CARERS OPEN DAY FAQS...
Can parents and carers attend?
Yes. We actively encourage parents and carers to attend our Open Days. It's a great opportunity to meet our tutors and support teams, ask questions and find out more about studying at The Northern College of Art.
What support is available for students?
We offer a wide range of support throughout a student's time with us, including wellbeing services, learning support, careers guidance and advice on progression into higher education or employment. Additional support is also available for students with SEND or an EHCP.
What happens if my child doesn't achieve a Grade 4 in English or Maths?
If a student hasn't achieved a Grade 4 in GCSE English or Maths, they'll normally continue studying these subjects alongside their main course, helping them gain the qualifications they need for future study and employment.
Can my child progress to university after studying here?
Yes. Many of our students continue their creative education by progressing onto higher education, including degree courses at The Northern School of Art, while others move directly into creative careers or apprenticeships.
How long should we allow for our visit?
Most families spend around two to three hours at an Open Day. This gives you plenty of time to explore the campus, speak with tutors, meet current students and ask any questions before making your decision.
