COURSE DETAILS

Step into character, build your confidence, and explore your passion for performance in a creative, supportive space where you can grow as an artist and individual.

This one-year, hands-on course is designed to introduce you to the core techniques of acting and prepare you for further training in performance. Whether you’re aiming for the spotlight or simply want to develop confidence and communication skills, Level 2 Acting gives you the chance to express yourself, try new things, and discover your strengths.

You will explore a wide range of performance styles - including improvisation, physical theatre, character building, devising, and scripted work - both for stage and for screen. Working in small, supportive groups, you’ll take part in practical workshops and collaborative projects, building trust and teamwork with your peers. As you gain experience, you’ll also learn how to analyse scripts, develop stage presence, and give and receive feedback to improve your craft.

You will perform in our specialist theatre studio and be supported by tutors with
real-world experience in acting, directing and production. The course is a brilliant foundation for moving onto the Level 3 Acting for Stage & Screen course and is ideal for anyone who loves storytelling, drama or working creatively with others.

STUDENT SPOTLIGHT

WHAT SURPRISED YOU ABOUT YOUR TIME HERE?

The utility of Industry connections. I have been lucky enough to develop some really strong connections with filmmakers, for example, both at the college and at the university allowing me to land some exciting roles in professional quality films + short films. I've also been able to audition for and land professional-acting jobs and agency representation offers through the knowledge and industry connections of my tutors.

OUTSTANDING Student Experience

The Northern College of Art had an exceptional history for its further education when formerly known as The Northern School of Art, and Cleveland College of Art and Design prior to that. The institution previously achieved an Ofsted rating of Outstanding in 2009, and held it consecutively across all inspections until the last inspection under the Education Inspection Framework in 2025. The institution is one of only a handful of colleges to make this achievement.
