Throughout the three years, you will create screen and theatre productions. Showcasing your skills and abilities to create new and original content for film and theatre practice. Students will use Black Magic cameras as well as utilize traditional super-16mm film using Arriflex cameras. Our BA (Hons) Film, TV & Theatre course provides students with access to industry standard software including Premiere Pro and Avid. You will work on a minimum of 10 productions across three years, probably more due the collaborative nature of the degree course.

Film school students work with live clients and will submit for festivals and competitions throughout the degree. Including the Kodak Commercial Awards, RTS Awards and National Student Drama Festival as well as others. At the end of the three year course, you will have a broad show-reel of work for your next steps into professional practice.

Located next to The Northern Studios—one of the largest film and TV studios in the Northeast—our students join a talent pool that opens doors to work on major productions. Last year, 30 students from the Stage & Screen Faculty contributed to Jackdaw (2023), an independent film directed by Jamie Childs (Doctor Who, Willow, Sandman), starring Jenna Coleman and Oliver Jackson-Cohen.

As of 2024, We are collaborating across all the stage & screen programmes with The North York Moors Railway (Indiana Jones and Harry Potter have both filmed there) to create an “As Live” TV studio show created by the students.

We are also working with Stockton Arc in collaborating with Acting for Stage & Screen to tech and stream this year’s Shakespeare production.

Stage & Screen have been commissioned to work alongside Darlington & Stockton Railway Bicentenary project for the Railway’s 200th celebration of The coming of the passenger train.

Your portfolio is a visual statement it tells us alot about you & your practice. The advice below is not meant to be restrictive but rather offers some simple advice to help you prepare for your portfolio review.

Examples can include:

7. Applicants to Film, TV & Theatre Production courses may consider:
• Recorded media be it visual, sound, or edited material either in college, or under your own initiative e.g. a YouTube or Vimeo Short Films or a theatre production you may have been involved with.
• Draft scripts or script ideas in development
• Photography (good as an alternative if you are unable to show us your own moving image or theatre productions)
• Written work May include film/programme reviews, scripts.

Authenticity of Submitted Work
All work submitted in support of an application (including written work, portfolios, proposals or additional evidence requested by the School) must be the applicant’s own original work.

The School reserves the right to request verification of authorship. Where submitted work is found to be misrepresented, misleading or not the applicant’s own, the application or offer may be withdrawn in accordance with our Admissions policy.

The Northern Film Festival: The Northern Film Festival is an exciting live event created by level 6 BA (Hons) Film, TV & Theatre Production students and is presented by ARC, Stockton Arts Centre.
