Since graduating with a BA (Hons) Photography from The Northern School of Art, Holly Galloway has developed a career spanning photography, filmmaking and creative direction, working across fashion, commercial content, documentary and the arts.

Holly has worked as a freelance photographer and filmmaker for more than 15 years, with experience ranging from photography and cinematography to editing, lighting and sound. Her career has included roles with END. Clothing and Forward Space, alongside freelance work for a range of brands and creative organisations. She also spent several years at The Northern School of Art as a Photography & Moving Image Lecturer and Studio Manager & Technician, supporting the next generation of photographers and filmmakers.

Her moving-image work includes cinematography and editing for Tish, a feature documentary directed by Paul Sng and financed by the BBC, BFI and Screen Scotland. The film premiered at Sheffield DocFest and was featured in The Guardian’s top 50 films of 2023. Holly has also worked on documentaries and experimental films including Matthew Finn: A Portrait, That Werewolf Complex and Dwell.

Alongside documentary work, Holly has created commercial and campaign films for brands and organisations including Host & Stay, Durham Cricket, Michelin-starred restaurant Hjem and fashion brand Endless Joy. Her work has also included projects featuring personalities such as Jill Scott and Chris Kamara, combining photography, cinematography and storytelling.

Holly’s career demonstrates how photography can provide a foundation for a much broader creative practice, with her work moving between stills, film, art direction and commercial storytelling.
