Since graduating with a BA (Hons) Photographic Practice (with moving image), now known as BA (Hons) Photography, from The Northern School of Art in 2022, Debbie Todd has developed a practice as a freelance portrait photographer, working with marginalised and underrepresented communities across the UK and internationally. She went on to complete an MA in Arts Practice at the School in 2023, receiving the Student of the Year award for the course.

Debbie has worked on collaborative projects with Helix Arts and Gateshead Council, and on the ‘Mother?’ project with Rachel Stockdale, photographing communities across the UK and in France. Her documentary work has included a project touring Northern Ireland, and her photography has been exhibited internationally in Berlin and Warsaw.

Her first solo exhibition was held at Bishop Auckland Town Hall, and she has since exhibited at ARC, in a group exhibition at Hartlepool Art Gallery, and through a commission for Middlesbrough Institute of Modern Art (MIMA).

Debbie has been shortlisted for several national photography awards, including Portrait of Britain, the LCE Photographer of the Year Award and the British Photography Awards, where she attended a ceremony in London. She has also been shortlisted for an exhibition with the Royal Photographic Society.

Debbie is a member of the Royal Photographic Society’s Women in Photography group and the Association of Photographers.
