Angela List-Evans retrained after a career in the steel industry, enrolling in the Extended Diploma in Design Crafts & Textiles at The Northern School of Art before progressing to BA (Hons) Costume Interpretation with Design, graduating with First Class Honours in 2021.
After graduating, she volunteered with the Conservation Team at the National Trust’s Ormesby Hall. Her research for her MA in Art, Culture and Curation, carried out in collaboration with the Hall, examined the Boosbeck Furniture social enterprise scheme, set up by the Pennyman family in the 1930s to support unemployed ironstone miners in East Cleveland. “It’s like playing detective; you need a curious mind,” she has said of studying for her MA.
In 2022, she joined Land of Iron, the ironstone mining museum at Skinningrove formerly known as the Cleveland Ironstone Mining Museum, as Collections and Engagement Officer. She became Collections Manager in 2023 and has since begun a PhD in Design History.
