Since graduating from The Northern School of Art’s BA (Hons) Production Design for Stage & Screen course as an award winner in 2023, Charlie Poole has quickly built professional experience within television and film art departments.

Charlie moved into the industry after graduating, securing Art Department Assistant roles on major productions including House of the Dragon and Coronation Street. He also worked in a production role at EPH Creative before gaining experience as a stagehand at Darlington Hippodrome. His work on All Creatures Great and Small came through a contact he made while working at the theatre.

Charlie has continued to build his experience across television and film, with credits including House of the Dragon, All Creatures Great and Small, The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole Aged 13¾ and the short film Tele X. His portfolio also showcases technical drawings, scale models and full-scale set builds, demonstrating the range of design and practical skills he has developed.

As an Art Department Assistant, Charlie has supported production designers and wider art department teams with tasks including script breakdowns, researching sets and props, preparing drawings and supporting construction teams. His work combines creative design with the practical problem-solving required to bring sets and environments to life.

Charlie credits the collaborative and supportive environment at The Northern School of Art with helping prepare him for the industry. Reflecting on his time at the School, he said:

“Studying at The Northern School of Art were three of the best years of my life. I built many new relationships with other students and tutors, who I am very thankful for, for teaching me everything they know about the industry.”
