Illustration lecturer Chris Saunders launches second children’s book
Following the worldwide success of his first children’s book, The Northern School of Art’s Illustration for Commercial Application degree lecturer Chris Saunders has just announced a follow-up title.
‘Believe’, which was recently launched at the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair, is a children’s picture book about a heart-warming journey of self-discovery by a lovable Sloth – the front cover image is pictured at the top.
It follows Chris’s debut picture book ‘Wish’, images below, launched in 2019, which has now been published in multiple languages around the world and is sold in retailers including Waterstones.
Speaking about his newest title Chris, pictured below, said: “‘Believe’ is a story about the importance of self-belief and determination, facing and overcoming challenges and doubt in the sincere pursuit of an honest goal. Truly embracing who we are and what makes us ‘different’, can sometimes help us to all grow together as we try to find ourselves and make sense of the world.”
Chris, who is internationally represented in the UK, USA and Asia by the illustration agency Astound US, has worked with clients around the world on live commercial projects including illustrated book covers, educational publications, licensed greetings cards and imagery as well as character and creative development for recognised companies including Jellycat Ltd, Cambridge University Press, Quarto Publishing Plc, Scholastic, and Kiwi Co amongst others.
He also recently worked on two titles with Flowerpot Press featuring the five-time Grammy Award winning American blues musician Keb’ Mo’, singer, songwriter, guitarist, contemporary blues artist, and children’s book author, see images below.
At the 2023 Frankfurt Book Fair, Chris’s front cover illustration for ‘Believe’ was featured on the international publishing house Rebo International‘s stand.
Chris commented: “I was absolutely thrilled to see my illustration featured on the stand. This was an incredibly proud moment, both personally and professionally. I am truly grateful to the wonderful and creative team at Rebo for believing in this idea.”
Chris is currently in the process of completing his third title in the series.
