The Sarah Cowell Design Impact Award winner Leah Allen 2023
The Sarah Cowell Design Impact Award for BA (Hons) Graphic Design and BA (Hons) Digital Design & Advertising has been awarded to student Leah Allen. The prize has been made in memory of Sarah Cowell, a student who harnessed design to make a true impact, attempting to make the world a better place. An ambition shared by many. The Design Impact Award recognises students from across the design disciplines, that demonstrate their commitment to make a difference and addressing social issues. Leah was presented with this award because her work shines a contemporary light on equality issues and continues to be an exemplary student.
Why did you choose to study at The Northern School of Art?
· I chose to study at The Northern School of Art because the Graphic Design course offered much regarding creative freedom, skill development and future job opportunities.
What’s your favourite memory of your time at the school?
· I have a lot of fond memories of working with my peers, people whom I consider to be my closest friends now and also my tutors. It was so good to have such a friendly working environment whilst being able to laugh.
What are you doing next and what are your plans/ambitions for the future?
· This is something that I’m still personally trying to work out but I know that I want to continue with my graphic design work as it is genuinely something I am passionate about pursuing.
Any advice for future students applying for the same course as you?
· Having a new experience and working on unfamiliar briefs can seem daunting, but going ahead with this course at this school is something I’ll keep with me forever. You’ll be okay!
Anything else you want to add?
· I want to take the time to dedicate my achievements to my tutors, Paul, Olivia, Owen and Jake. Thank you for everything!
