Dissertation Prize Award Winner: Lewis King!
This award is now in its 15th year, and was created as a means to recognise the high standard of work that is being presented by our Level Six students. The prize is awarded as recognition to those whose research and debate resulted on an innovative approach to their subject, to the research, and to the debate. This year it was presented to BA (Hons) Model Making & Visual FX student Lewis King.
“This student’s Undergraduate Dissertation explores the utilisation of interactive exhibitions within a museum setting, investigating new technological advancements in exhibition design as a way to promote deeper learning and information assimilation. They have conducted important primary research to inform their Dissertation, including interviews with the Chief Executive of Aberdeen Science Centre and the Manager of The Heugh Battery Museum in Hartlepool.”

Where did you join The Northern School of Art from?
I come from Aberdeenshire, Scotland and studied at City of Glasgow College before coming here.
Why did you chose to study here?
I chose The Northern School of Art because it is closer to home than some other unis and I liked the quiet vibe. The lecturers were very passionate about helping you figure out what your path can look like.
Tell us about your favourite memory at the school:
I’m not sure what my favourite memory is. Ive just really enjoyed being surrounded by creative people who all have different goals and different drives in life. I love seeing the final results of peoples hard work. Everything just starting as scrappy half baked ideas and turning into awesome actualised final projects.
What do your next steps look like?
My next step for me is New Blades recruitment fair, I’m so excited to see what avenues are open for me. I’m also taking steps to start thinking about opening my own workshop studio business in the not too distant future.
What would your advice be for aspiring art students?
My advice is to chase things that evoke your curiosity. If an idea or an art style or whatever just really gets you stoked, follow it and see what you can make! Find what drives you and you will have a better time at Uni.
