Since studying photography at what was then Cleveland College of Art and Design, now The Northern School of Art, Lucinda Grange has built an international career as an adventure and documentary photographer known for scaling some of the world’s most iconic structures.
Lucinda’s work has taken her to the top of buildings and monuments including the Chrysler Building in New York, the Great Pyramid in Egypt, the Firth of Forth Rail Bridge in Scotland, the Williamsburg Bridge in New York and Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris. In 2013, her portrait taken from an arch of Notre Dame saw her selected by The Independent and the Young Photographers’ Alliance as a rising photographer, and her 2014 photograph atop the Chrysler Building was featured in the book Outside the Lines.
Her photography has been published by MoMA, the BBC, the New York Post, The Independent and The Guardian, and exhibited at the Joseph Gross Gallery in New York.
Alongside her self-portraiture, Lucinda has developed an ongoing project, Backwards and in High Heels, photographing women in elegant dress in extreme and unexpected locations, exploring perceptions of gender and capability. “I use photography as a means of self-expression,” Lucinda has said of her practice.
Now based in New York, Lucinda has credited her time at The Northern School of Art with shaping her career: “Thank you Northern School of Art, that’s now what I’m paid to do!”
