Since graduating from The Northern School of Art’s BA (Hons) Costume Interpretation with Design course, Molly Frankland has built experience across film and television costume, progressing from trainee roles to working as a Costume Design Junior and gaining experience across costume design, crowd costume and specialist costume work.
Molly began her career as a costume trainee, working across productions throughout the North West. One of her highlights was working on series eight and nine of Inside No. 9, gaining valuable experience within the costume department of the acclaimed anthology series.
Her career has continued to develop through a range of increasingly varied costume roles. As a Costume Junior, Molly worked on Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, the Netflix feature film, where she contributed to the costume department by making neckerchiefs for the character of Duke Shelby.
Molly has also developed experience as a Costume Design Junior, assisting costume designers on productions including Enola Holmes 3 and a new Amazon television series. Working alongside established designers has allowed her to develop her understanding of costume design for screen, from the creative development of characters through to the practical demands of preparing costumes for production.
Alongside costume design, Molly has gained experience in crowd costume, dressing and looking after supporting artists on set. Her credits in this area include The Choral and A Woman of Substance, giving her further insight into the scale and organisation required to costume large groups of performers for screen.
Molly’s experience across trainee, costume junior, costume design and crowd costume roles demonstrates the range of pathways available within the film and television costume industry. From working on established productions such as Inside No. 9 and Peaky Blinders to assisting costume designers on major film and television projects, she continues to develop her skills and build a career within the industry.
