Talk by co-directors of Middlesbrough’s contemporary art gallery The Auxiliary
The co-directors of Middlesbrough contemporary art gallery and studio space The Auxiliary are guest speakers in The Northern School of Art‘s #CreativeCareers professional studies session on Wednesday 26 May at 11am.
Anna Byrne and Liam Slevin will talk about the background and development of the space which enables local, national and international artists in devising independent art platforms and structures for the dissemination of contemporary art practices throughout the Tees Valley.
Telling the story of the gallery’s beginnings, where their own home provided an evolving gallery space, the range of exhibitions and performances across the Tees Valley including the acclaimed Middlesbrough Art Weekender events, and its current 11,000 sqft. warehouse space in Middlesbrough, Liam and Anna may also give an insight into an upcoming exhibition!

About The Northern School of Art’s Creative Careers series:
The schedule of talks covers a range of disciplines and they are delivered by industry speakers, creative lecturers and graduates from across the whole creative sector.
These sessions can serve as a useful resource for schools and colleges (or anyone with an interest in creative development and progression). Usually lasting around 45 minutes, they take place on a Wednesday afternoon.
Participants can log in remotely via a Microsoft Teams link, which will be sent to anyone that books a place through Eventbrite.
Our previous speakers have helped to inspire the next generation of creatives, sharing their own creative journey, insights into their practice, demonstrations of their work as well as providing general advice to anyone looking to follow a similar path.
