Tell us about your project with urban outfitters
My involvement with Urban Outfitters started with a submission for their SHEET Magazine Issue 12. I sent them a few of my images from one of my shoots and explained how they related to the theme ‘Connections’. –
‘This photograph I’ve taken has a strong link to nature and is very personal to me. I aimed to produce art that is both aesthetically pleasing and natural. The strength of women in this photograph is accentuated by nature, which is a highly potent force.’ I was successful with the submission, and they are now involving my photograph within their magazine which will be online and in stores in the UK and EU!
We hear you have been commended in some awards! Tell us about them:
In January of 2022 I was awarded 2nd place for ‘Best Photograph’ in the Rotary Young Photographer Competition 2021/2022 (Whitby and District). This consisted of photographing fungi relating to the theme ‘Colours of the Season’. This was then later published in the Whitby Gazette.
In April of 2022 I was awarded two ‘Highly Commended’ awards for two of my photographs in the ‘Portraits Category’ for the John Tindale Photography Awards. This competition involved many photographers who were very advanced and older than me. Furthermore, both my portraits were displayed at the Whitby Musuem throughout April and May for people to look at.
Why did you decide to come to The Northern School of Art?
I decided to come to The Northern School of Art as they offered a course that I knew I wanted to study immediately. Plus it’s the only art college that is close to my home that offered the photography course, as no where else nearby did.
My course is amazing! I love my tutors and the overall work. This course allows for self-expression by creating whatever imagery you desire relating to the project’s theme. I love the friends I’ve made and cannot wait to see what the future holds.
What are your future career plans?
My future plans are to become a successful fashion photographer. I want to perhaps begin working as a PA for a photographer to gain experience in the industry before I begin my career. My dream university would be UAL or Falmouth as I want to travel down south and build a network. Furthermore, my biggest goal in life is to photograph Dua Lipa!
What would your advice be to students looking to study photography?
My advice to students looking to study photography, is to just do it. If you enjoy taking pictures and expressing your thoughts and emotions through imagery, then just do it! Many people have doubted me but it’s what I wanted to do, and I stuck with the decision to carry on with photography. It was the best decision of my life!
