The Northern School of Art is inviting entries for the Foundation Art Prize 2026, celebrating the creativity of young artists across our region.
This year, we’ve expanded the prize to include two age categories, giving more emerging creatives the chance to showcase their work and be celebrated at our annual Summer Show.

Categories & Eligibility
Years 9–11 (approx. ages 14–16) – open to young people living in the Tees Valley

Years 12–13 (approx. ages 16–18) – open to young people living across the North East and Yorkshire and the Humber

Prizes
Years 9–11 (approx. ages 14–16) category
Winner: £250 cash prize Two runners-up: £50 creative materials vouchers (each) Winner’s school/college: £100 contribution towards art materials

Years 12–13 (approx. ages 16–18) category
Winner: £300 cash prize Two runners-up: £50 creative materials vouchers (each) Winner’s school/college: £100 contribution towards art materials

Judges
Overseen by our UAL Foundation Diploma in Art and Design team at the Middlesbrough campus, the prize is designed to inspire and showcase artistic excellence across a wide range of media. The judging panel includes the a representative of Bloomin Arts, members of the Foundation Diploma staff, and the School’s Vice Principal for Further Education.

What you can submit
Submissions must be the entrant’s original work and can include still image or video-based work. Entrants should not submit work that has been produced specifically for formal assessment (e.g. GCSE or A Level final outcomes). Ready to enter? Submit your entry using the online form below!
