COURSE DETAILS
During the 2-year programme, students will learn the core knowledge and skills that are needed for entry to a range of media, broadcast and production occupations. The T-Level in Media, Broadcast and Production will be available from September 2025. Students will develop an understanding of a broad range of issues relevant to the sector, including: • the creative economy • the individual in the creative industries • cultural context and vocabulary • audience and consumer needs • legal and regulatory requirements • professional standards and conduct in the workplace • equality, diversity and inclusion requirements • research skills • project methodology and administration • continued professional development The T Level is assessed through two main components: a Core component and an Occupational Specialism component. The Core component includes written exams and employer-set projects, assessing foundational knowledge. The Occupational Specialism is evaluated through externally set skills-based projects, focusing on specialised knowledge and practical competence in the chosen field.
T-Levels follow the study of GCSE’s and Technical Awards and offer an alternative to A-Levels and Apprenticeships. T-Levels combine classroom theory, practical learning and a minimum 315 hours of industry placement with an employer. The work placement ensures students have real experience of the workplace. T-Level programmes are developed in collaboration with employers so that the content meets the needs of industry and prepares students for work. T-Levels provide the knowledge and experience needed to progress to highly skilled employment, an Apprenticeship or higher-level study, including university.

Your T-Level will be worth up to 168 UCAS points (a T-Level Distinction* is worth the same as 3 A-Levels at A*) and will be recognised by universities and other education providers so you can choose to continue studying if you wish. The Department for Education have published a list of higher education providers who will consider T-Levels for entry onto at least one course. When you pass your T-Level, you will get a nationally recognised certificate showing the overall grade you achieved - pass, merit, distinction or distinction*. It will also give details of what you learned on the course to help you move into skilled employment or a higher apprenticeship.

You’ll spend 80% of your time in the classroom and 20% on a 45-day placement with an employer to give you the skills and knowledge companies look for. Your industry placement gives you the chance to learn what a real career is like while you continue your studies. When and how you complete it depends on the T-Level, school or college, and employer. Like A-Levels, there are no tuition fees to study a T-Level. This course is dependent on application levels and employer liaison and may not go ahead if criteria is not met.

The Northern School of Art’s Middlesbrough campus has been given another ‘Outstanding’ rating by Ofsted. Following an intensive four-day inspection by six inspectors the School’s further education provision has retained the top rating it has held since 2009.
