Dr Tony Charles has studied in three of the Universities in the North East of England: Teesside, Northumbria and Sunderland and has been employed at The Northern School of Art for 10 years as both a lecturer and, more recently, a Reader, where he shares knowledge of his practical and professional experience. As an arts practitioner, he continues to exhibit nationally and internationally and is instrumental in directing a variety of art projects both in the region and abroad. As a director of Platform A Gallery, he curates six exhibitions per year and seeks to create opportunities and sales for regional artists and offer mentorship for emerging practitioners through exhibitions, international art fairs and gallery exchanges. His activities assist in creating employment opportunities in curating and arts administration. Tony maintains his practice at Platform Arts Studios in Middlesbrough

Investigations include personal practice, exhibiting, curating artists’ exhibitions and collaborative projects. Recent professional activity includes organising and exhibiting in ‘Groundhoppers’ Berlin 2025 and Hard Copy, Sheffield 2025
