Ella joined The Northern School of Art after working in the creative industry for over eight years. Ella currently teaches across both the Graphic Design and Design & Digital Marketing programmes.

With experience in graphic design, creative marketing, illustration, and printmaking, Ella brings a multidisciplinary approach to creative practice, prioritising socially engaged work and opportunities for collaboration.

Visual communication and storytelling are central to Ella’s practice, with a strong focus on understanding audiences and using design strategically for marketing.

Prior industry experience includes working as a designer in a specialist healthcare and lifestyle studio with global clients, as well as roles as a social media lead and content creator, translating campaigns across multiple platforms, developing concepts, and pitching competitively for international brands.

Alongside teaching, Ella maintains an active freelance practice, producing visual communication work for client briefs while also creating and selling original prints and artwork.

Ella is particularly passionate about combining traditional craft and storytelling with digital tools and contemporary perspectives.

Guest teaching at Oxbridge Academy, discussing multidisciplinary creativity

Working with Sunderland-based CIC Harbour Printworks, facilitating workshops for LGBTQIA+ youth, and designing a fashion brand

Further work with Harbour printworks, receiving Arts Council funding as an exhibiting artist and facilitator, setting up a print studio to benefit the local community and celebrate queer artists

Working freelance on a range of live branding and design projects with a particular focus on positive social impact

Developing my personal practice combining traditional and digital illustration and printmaking techniques, exploring history and folklore with a contemporary perspective

Contributing to markets, exhibitions and fairs to continue to sell work and connect with other industry professionals

Currently in the research and development phase of my personal research practice, exploring the merging of contemporary and historic perspectives, particularly focusing on medievalism across contemporary digital and print design

Setting up cross-discipline collaborations with other industry professionals, including fine artists, printmakers, publishers and academics, to further my work
