Helen graduated in 2002 with a 1st (Hons) in Textiles & Surface Design and has worked within industry ever since. Beginning her career in London designing for Red Or Dead, before moving into lecturing and founding creative organisations since.
In 2011 Helen opened her design studio and interiors brand Surfacephilia, producing luxury collections of wallpaper, bespoke artwork and interior products, selling through and to retailers and interior designers across the UK and internationally. Helen also creates work on a commission basis for interior designers, tv personalities, and other interior brands designing bespoke artwork, surface pattern designs and wallpapers to specific briefs. Helen’s work has been represented in prestigious stores such as Liberty London, and has produced designs for companies such as Graham & Brown, Mary Portas and Laura Ashley.
Since launching the brand in 2011 at London Design Festival, Surfacephilia has been described as ‘One To Watch’ in The Telegraph Magazine, Glass Magazines ‘Top Five Designers To Have In Your Home’, and featured in the Evening Standard, House & Gardens, Ideal Home, Hospitality Interiors Magazine, Financial Times House & Home and making the front cover of Living NE numerous times.
Helen has exhibited at many international trade shows and exhibitions such as Tent London, London Design Festival, Clerkenwell Design Week, HOME Olympia, and more recently holding solo art exhibitions, attending pop-up selling events in stores like Fenwicks, and running permanent retail concession spaces in the North-East.

Helen has recently founded a networking group for regional, professional designers working within interiors. Named Interiors Social Circle, she aims to offer warm and open support to invited members, who often face issues around progression due to working in isolation within their own businesses. She hosts monthly social meet-ups, providing the opportunity for connection and collaboration.
