Creative Technician – BA (Hons) Textiles for Surface Design

Qualifications:

BA (Hons) – Textiles and Surface Design – Cleveland College of Art and Design (now NSoA) 2016

Foundation Degree – Printed and Constructed Textiles – Newcastle College 2014

 

Jo graduated as a mature student from the Northern School of Art in 2016, where she studied after a long career in dressmaking. During her Textiles and Surface Design BA, she specialised in combining digital and hand printing with embroidery techniques. After graduating, she moved into a technician role at the school. Jo now delivers and supports workshops with Textiles and other courses in both embroidery and printed textiles.

As well as delivering technical demonstration and instruction on techniques and processes, she supervises working areas, ensures necessary maintenance of equipment is carried out, maintains stock levels, tracks budgets, monitors health and safety standards and advises on the purchasing of materials and equipment.

Outside of the Northern School of Art Jo continues to make textile products and garments with a particular interest in reusing vintage, deadstock and reclaimed textiles.

Jo has exhibited in numerous staff exhibitions at the Northern School of Art, New Designers and Premiere Vision.
