Lee is a multidisciplinary creative from Middlesbrough, whose most recent works include Production Design for touring theatre productions “The Bench” (CaroleW Productions) and Othello (Elysium Theatre Company).

After a decade of creating predominantly independently led projects ranging from multimedia digital content to event production, Lee began studying on the BA (hons) Production Design for Stage and Screen programme at The Northern School of Art as a mature student to find a career focus within Production Design.

During his studies, Lee began working freelance, creating his business Hollow Productions. Offering a range of production design services covering every aspect of the design, scenic construction and painting process. Since graduating from university, he has worked on over 25 diverse productions from traditional theatre and film/TV to immersive commercial installations such as Newcastle’s Grainger Market’s Santa’s Grotto (2021 and 2022) and immersive table top gaming rooms in Geek Retreat Ltd franchises.

Utilising a wide range of technical, theoretical and cultural knowledge, Lee offers a unique interdisciplinary approach to Production Design. With skills specialised in creating and guiding creative projects for cross-industry productions, Lee’s contribution to the students’ learning experience on the course is one of a holistic and contemporary nature.

Research Interests & Projects / Professional Activity / Publications/ Awards / Exhibitions / Media Coverage:

Through personal research and practical experimentation, Lee is currently exploring how the transferable skills developed through Production Design operate outside of the traditional stage and screen industries, looking at the relationship between visual world-building and the music industry as a creative director.
