Lyndon is a multifaceted creative with a relatively longstanding career that is three-fold as a design educator, a creative director of his interior design company and as an artist, maker and designer.
As an educator, he has had over three decades of teaching textile design and has been responsible for curriculum design and organisation and is actively responsible for the development and delivery of an exciting and innovative curriculum which incorporates a range of strategies that encourage students in developing professional practice, which ultimately enhances potential student employability. These include developing a network of contacts within textiles and surface design that enriches the course with work-related learning opportunities, such as supporting students with work experience, developing linked projects and guest speakers and presenting textile design work of staff and students at national and international trade shows.
His design company has also been running for over three decades and during this time, his business has continued to grow and expand, establishing a loyal and discerning customer base. He still continues to be solely responsible for the business, which involves designing, making, curating, visual merchandising and regular seasonal buying at trade shows, and it is this hands-on approach that he believes to be fundamental to the success and longevity of a design business. He believes that running a company alongside teaching provides an interface of enhanced learning opportunities. He has been approached and featured in many national design magazines, where his business and home have been showcased and he continues to work on the interiors of a range of high-profile clientele.
Research Interests & Projects / Professional Activity / Publications / Awards / Exhibitions / Media Coverage:
Lyndon still maintains his own creative practice as an artist, maker and designer from his own studio, which specialises in creating one-off artworks and textile designs. His work is primarily abstract and utilises collage techniques using found vintage paper and ephemera, which is often hand-printed and hand-painted with a focus on form, colour, texture and composition. The outcomes of his pieces are completely informed and dictated by his belief in trusting the creative process, embracing the uncertainty and allowing for unpredictability and experimentation. The distinctive personality of his work is an antidote to mass-produced products that are all too often homogenised and impersonal and his artworks have a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic that complements both modern and traditional interiors.
He has also shown his work recently at The Bowes Museum, Modern Makers exhibition and a range of national and international industry-based trade shows, including Premier Vision Designs in Paris, Surtex in New York, Decosit in Brussels and The London Print Design Fair.
