STUDENT PROFILE - Caiden Edgell

What do you enjoy most about your course?
I really enjoy my Level 3 Textiles course because it gives me the chance to explore a wide range of specialist facilities and techniques so that I can develop my artistic skills to a more advanced level.

What’s your favourite thing about The Northern School of Art?
I like the creative culture and environment of the college itself. It has such a welcoming and supportive atmosphere from both staff and other students. Being able to work on live projects with industry, get the opportunity to exhibit our work and go on trips is a lot of fun.

What's surprised you about your time here?
What surprised me most about the Textiles course was the variety of skills we learn. I wasn’t expecting to work with so many different processes, like printing, embroidery, tufting and surface design. The access to specialist facilities has really opened my eyes to how creative and experimental textiles can be. I love using the print room!

What advice would you give to someone thinking about studying here?
I’d say just go for it and don’t be scared to try new things. Textiles is really hands‑on, so the more you experiment, the better you get. Don’t worry about being perfect, mistakes actually help you come up with better ideas. Make the most of the equipment, ask questions, and just enjoy being creative.
