Carl is a Newcastle Upon Tyne-based illustrator and animator whose multidisciplinary practice spans commercial commissions, personal projects, and public exhibitions. With a foundation in film and television production, he transitioned into animation and illustration in 2015. Since then, his artwork has reached an international audience through collaborations with clients such as Warner Bros, Hannah Barbera, Nestle, BBC.
Carl’s diverse portfolio includes product, character, branding, advertising, and poster design. Notably, he collaborated with New York-based agency Baron & Baron on an International Children’s Day advertising campaign in Beijing, with his character illustrations featured on billboards, merchandise, plush toys, balloons, and sticker books. In 2024, he created a series of large-scale murals for the Royal Derby Children’s Hospital, bringing warmth and vibrancy to the young outpatients’ department.
A dedicated advocate for design education, Carl frequently lectures at universities and conferences. He has led workshops and delivered talks at institutions such as Nottingham Trent University, Northumbria University, and recently Sunderland University, sharing insights from his professional journey and creative process.
His distinctive character-driven work earned him speaking roles at the Pictoplasma Conference in Berlin (2022) and the Pictoplasma “Characters for Clients” international broadcast (2024), where he presented his approach to client-led character design to a global audience.
