Zubaidah is a Dutch national and studied Modern Theatre Dance at the Amsterdam University of the Arts, where she graduated in 2006. After this, she moved to the northeast of England to work as one of Tees Valley Dance’s core team of dancers at Arc in Stockton on Tees. Here she was part of the creative process of the company’s shows and taught workshops within education and the community next to this. After 4 years of working for the company, she plunged into life as a freelance dancer and dance artist. This included national and international tours of “Yummm!” with Tell Tale Hearts, DanceDigital and sight-specific performances with Periplum. Zubaidah has taught in community and educational settings for Teesside University, Newcastle College and TeesDance.

Outside of her work for The Northern School of Art, Zubaidah works as a self-employed dance artist under the name NEmotion and has been the recipient of an Arts Council England Developing Your Creative Practice (DYCP) grant and is in the process of submitting an Arts Council England National Lottery Project Grant (NLPG) to develop the work started within the DYCP. For her NLPG, she is working together with a language specialist from Leeds University to research how movement can aid language understanding and development for Early Years children.
