Second year BA (Hons) Photography degree students undertook an exciting industry-focused project for their module Moving Image, in which they collaborated with two emerging musicians Lurcher and Cybill.Enndzz to produce a complete music video for each performer. This brief offered students an invaluable opportunity to work in a professional client-facing environment, developing creative concepts while tailoring their visual approach to the artists’ individual styles, branding, and musical identity.

Lecturer Richard Allaway said “across several weeks, students engaged in a process that mirrored real-world production pipelines to create these music videos. They held regular meetings with the artists, gaining in-depth insight into client needs, artistic vision, and stylistic direction. This iterative feedback process ensured that students could respond to critique, refine their ideas, and build their understanding of visual communication within the music industry.”

“The project also encouraged learners to work with top-of-the-range camera equipment, giving them hands-on experience with industry-standard tools that support both creative exploration and professional-level outcomes. This technical engagement not only strengthened their cinematography and workflow skills but also prepared them for future employment within music, media, and commercial production environments.”

The Artists

Lurcher – video by Reverie & Amelia

With a debut single Stone Island set for release in May 2025 – and frequent features in regional music publications such as NARC and NE Volume – Lurcher continues to gain traction in the underground scene. Their E.P With Love has amassed significant Spotify streams, and the band are actively gigging across the UK. Working with a band at this pivotal moment offered students a dynamic and evolving soundscape to visually interpret. Watch the video by students Reverie & Amelia above.

Cybill.Endzz

The solo project of musician Richard Dobbing, Cybill.Endzzz blends Lo-Fi textures with an Emo-infused melodic style. With a growing reputation, and a consistently full performance schedule, the project is building momentum. Students were able to translate this distinctive musical identity into creative moving-image work, resulting in highly personalised and expressive video concepts. Richard said “this collaboration provided a wonderful opportunity for photography students to engage directly with up-and-coming talent, applying their skills to authentic industry briefs while contributing meaningfully to the artists’ creative output. The experience strengthened their confidence, communication abilities, and technical fluency, culminating in the production of engaging, artist-led music video.”

Reflecting on the brief Lily said “I learnt a lot from this module, making a music video was something I would have never attempted without this task, so I was happy to be given the opportunity to try something new within my work, and I really enjoyed the whole process. It was especially great to work with the artist and see his response to our work in a final screening at the end of the module. By working with an actual client, this module gave us all a great insight into more professional, industry work.”

When asked about her time on the degree programme Lily responded “I really enjoy my degree programme, I have learnt and grown so much since starting as a fresher, not only in my work but also as a person. I believe studying at a specialist arts university provides everyone with such a positive, welcoming environment and the courses seem to be so much more specialist and professional than those at non-specialist universities.”
