Lucienne Day – Centenary Year
Lucienne Day (Désirée Lucienne Lisbeth Dulcie Day) was a British textile designer. She was inspired by the English tradition of patterns based on plant forms and nature. She transformed drawings of the likes of flowers, shoots, landscapes and grasses into new and exciting She took motifs drawn from nature – flowers, grasses, shoots, the intricate patterns of the landscape – and transformed them into something absolutely new. Part of their success was the implied message of regrowth and optimism for a Britain only just recovering from war.
As today marks the centenary of the birth of Lucienne Day 1917-2010 we wanted to take a look at her fantastic work!
