Meet our 2022 Award Winners – Donna Auchterlounie BA (Hons) Textiles & Surface Design

Find out more about BA (Hons) Textiles & Surface Design graduate Donna Auchterlounie, winner of The Northern School of Art’s BA (Hons) Textiles & Surface Design – Student of the Year 2022 award which recognised ‘the overall performance, approach to studying and achievement of graduating students from the BA (Hons) Textiles & Surface Design Programme’.

What is your home town and which school/college did you join the School from?

I’m from Whitley Bay near Newcastle upon Tyne and joined the School as a mature student

Why did you choose to study at The Northern School of Art?

I chose to study at The Northern School of Art as it has excellent print room facilities.

What’s your favourite memory of your time at the School (academically as well as socially!)

My favourite memory of my time at The Northern School of Art has to be the day of Degree Show preview night, where I firstly won the award for student of the year, which was a huge shock and a total honour. Then I got to show my family around my own personal exhibit and the whole college that has been a home from over the last three years.

It was also special to get back in the studios with my fellow classmates and tutors after the lockdowns.

I would like to add that the textiles staff are in a league of their own and their dedication to all the students particularly during Covid has been exceptional and they have all made my time here a truly unforgettable experience.

What are you doing next and what are your plans/ambitions for the future?

After exhibiting at the New Designers graduate show in London I plan to set up my own business where I hope to design and produce textiles for interiors.
