Meet the Photography Staff
At Cleveland College of Art & Design, we pride ourselves on our heritage and history as well as our culturally rich surroundings. But most of all, we are proud of our people. And at the heart of our College, our focus has always been on our students and staff. For new students looking to gain insight into the College and what we are about, we want to begin a new series focussing on some of our key departments here at our Hartlepool campus.
First up, is our very popular Photography department. Our Photography department specialises in Photographic Practice (with moving image) and Commercial Photography. We hold a fantastic reputation for the extremely high quality of work produced by our students, continually championed by our teaching staff – our BA (Hons) Photography course which some still currently studying was voted AOP course of the year in 2017.

Jill Cole
Alongside lecturing at Cleveland College of Art and Design, Jill Cole also lives and works in the North East as a documentary photographer. Jill, considers issues around conflict, beauty and renewal. The aim is to locate our own, often distanced realities within an ongoing presence of war. Prior to becoming a photographic artist Jill worked for over ten years in international ethical and rural development. Informed greatly by this earlier experience, the way that individuals and communities react and interact with their natural environments is at the heart of her work and approach to photography.
