Artists from a world-leading digital art and design studio which creates concept art for Marvel, Aardman and Warner Bros are the guest speakers at a creative industry careers event being hosted by The Northern School of Art.
Atomhawk Design, which provides design and digital art production services to companies worldwide across games, film and digital media, will be giving an insight into how the industry works and the career opportunities available at the free event after the Open Day at the School’s Hartlepool campus on Saturday 21 March.
From its studios in Gateshead, Tyne and Wear and Vancouver, Canada, Atomhawk has worked on films such as Thor II, Guardians of the Galaxy (pictured at the top), Avengers: Age of Ultron (pictured above) and Avengers II, games including the Mortal Kombat series, Injustice 2, Killzone, Project Spark and Dead Island, plus extensive work on the Harry Potter franchise with Pottermore (pictured below) and Sony’s Book of Spells and Book of Potions.
Atomhawk artists Dario Jelusic and Dennis van Kessel will speak about the industry and how things run and give advice on how to break into the industry of concept art.
Dennis, 22, is a Junior Concept Artist at Atomhawk who is originally from the Netherlands but moved to England to pursue his passion for concept art.
His colleague Dario, 33, (whose festive drawing is pictured above) is a Senior Illustrator and Concept Artist with the company who relocated from Croatia to pursue a career in concept art and has worked on the Mortal Kombat 11 (pictured below) and Star Wars Jedi Fallen Order games.
Recently released government figures show the UK’s successful creative industries contributed £111.7 billion to the economy in 2018, equivalent to £306 million every day and almost £13 million every hour.
Pat Chapman, The Northern School of Art’s Vice Principal, said: “The figures also showed that the creative industries are growing more than five times faster than the national economy which shows what a powerhouse the sector is.
“This is a unique chance to hear invaluable first-hand advice about careers in the booming creative industries from two highly accomplished concept artists from such a well-regarded studio and we are very privileged to be hosting them.”
