Governors Award Winner For The Best In Show Rose Richardson!
Congratulations to UAL Extended Diploma in Graphic Design student Rose Richardson, winner of The Governors Best in Show Award from our Middlesbrough Campus! The Governors’ Award is given annually to the student who has the most impressive work. Their work is regarded as being the ‘Best in Show.’
Rose, from Stockton-on-Tees, was presented with this award because “she worked exceptionally hard throughout their FMP, highlighting issues surrounding their project theme, and personal interest of Warhammer. She has experienced navigating sensitive areas surrounding misogyny and the impact of such within the game, professionally gathering research to inform her knowledge further on this.
Four weeks before the deadline, She flipped her FMP on its head, reverting to one of her first concepts surrounding the environmental impact and sustainability of the game, and in four weeks produced what would be expected for the full duration of the FMP, of which has been executed to a professional standard that would be seen within the design industry.”
Find out more about Rose, her work and next steps below:
How did you feel about winning the governors best in show award?
I’m still surprised that it was me! I put a lot of effort in during my final project, and to have it recognised is even better.
Why did you choose to study at The Northern School of Art?
I chose Northern School of Art because I wanted to be around like minded people. I work best when the environment is artistic.
What are your favourite memories from the school? Socially and academically!
Some of the parts I enjoyed most while studying was when the lessons broke the norm, getting to use new printing methods or going on trips. Another good memory is walking down to the green at lunch with my classmates on a normal day.
What are your next steps?
I’m going to the University of Sunderland after college, and I’d love to be able to start my own business one day. It’s a great feeling seeing people enjoy what you create!
Any advice for students thinking of applying to study here?
Make the most of your first year lessons because when you get to second year, the freedom will be that much better. If you want to learn a software or process, make it fit your project. It’s always worth a go.
