Through my work I am intending to create a theoretical world. I consider this world to be an alternate Earth that, due to events that played out differently on that Earth, deviates from the version of Earth we know. The digital collages and paintings I create are influenced by the human curiosity surrounding the end of the world, as well as, humanity's potential contribution and reaction to that event. I made the decision to name these paintings using co-ordinates with the hope the locations they show could eventually be represented on a globe.

My practice focuses on Painting within the Expanded Field and pushing the boundaries of both painting and sculpture to achieve object-hood within a painterly practice. I use mostly painterly materials such as canvas, wooden stretchers, paint and frames. However, in traditional methods to both push the boundaries of what a painting can be and also to achieve sculptural form. My practice has also been heavily influenced by art history particularly from the baroque and rococo, which has inspired the ornate style and colour scheme of the work. Also the influence of the french salon hang art galleries inspired the use of frames and chains within my practice.

My monochromatic oil and acrylic paintings focus on the contrast between nature’s flowers and man-made flowers within architecture in addition to their language and symbolism.

This work is made primarily of plaster and the colours have been applied through multiple techniques from marble dipping, to spray paint to just normal painting. I have tried to make these pieces the most colourful and eye-catching of all of the work I have made in the past and I think that I have managed to capture the colours in a wonderful way with these methods. Now that I have completed this course where I have made great friends and discovered what I was meant to do in fine art, I will be moving onto do a SCITT in secondary teaching where I will be able to pass on what I have learnt to the next generation of young aspiring artists.

I am highly influenced by my surroundings in the North East of England in particular Saltburn, Skinningrove and my hometown of Ayr in Scotland. I paint abstract sea and landscapes by merging images of the areas together to create a stirring new image. My main focus is bold brushstroke, colours and textures. My work has taken a sculptural turn in the form of sculptural painting. These show that once you break and destroy something it takes on a new form of beauty and becomes much stronger.
