David CookQueer Experience
The Queer Experience is a portraiture-based project aiming to spread LGBT representation and awareness through the stories, emotions and experiences of queer people from a range of age groups and backgrounds. Using dissected portraits, I aim to present the different emotional parts of all the queer people photographed. This, alongside an excerpt of their own writing, gives the heteronormative viewer a look into a world of thoughts and feelings they may not have experienced in their everyday lives with the hope of developing an understanding between queer people and the general public. My goal is to help usher in a more compassionate world going forward. My intention is to continue developing this project in the future, either through further study or as my own personal project.

Debbie ToddMeaning of Being Different
My practice as a portrait photographer based in the north east of England specialises in working with people who are generally different compared to mainstream society. I strive to highlight the beauty that lives within these differences that most people don’t take the time to see. This series of images is based around proverbs and idioms that affect/surround people with various differences and lifestyles. They have been created to allow people to engage with the subject and consider the use of language and how it affects others. The images represent a diverse range of people who are often excluded from mainstream media and fashion images because of prejudices about how they look/act or their lifestyle.

Ellie StephensonHerbs
My project Herbs focuses on ingredients that pair well with each other to create the perfect home cooked meal. The images represent a recipe that has been deconstructed down to show the main ingredients. I wanted to capture the colours and different textures that each raw ingredient has, to give the viewer a sense of comfort when they think about the meal the ingredients represent. Through my photography I aim to show that food is a creative world in which you can get many different types of food from just one raw ingredient. This work has stemmed from the love and enjoyment I get from working with food and the styling of it. I have been influenced by recipes online and images that are found in cookbooks/magazines as well as a number of food photographers.

Emily WoodsFck Your Beauty Magazine (2)
Magazines and product photography has always been my point of interest, however so has feminism. This enabled me to create F*ck your Beauty Magazine as it involves all I am interested in; commercial work and women’s rights. Researching magazines dating back to the 1800s offered me an interesting exploration of how beauty standards have changed so much. But one thing hasn’t; the pressure for women to look a certain way. I wanted to show how far women have come and can now, to an extent, be who they want to be. The male gaze is still very widely used in all women's advertising and we want to change that. This is why I want to continue my career in commercial work with meaning. Although we still have a long way to go, this project aims to show how far we have come. Well done ladies.

Fi McClurgPavilion
'Pavilion' is a body of work that interrogates the polarising Apollo Pavilion public art structure in Peterlee. This work celebrates the possibilities of the Pavilion by examining the structure in of itself, and the myriad of detail, form and texture that contribute to the work. I hope that by decontextualising the whole object I can reconstruct it, piece by piece, into both its original shape, and new and exciting forms. By utilising light, shadow, and geometry it is possible to show hidden dimensions and facets to this immense Brutalist artwork, as each individual image is both a work by itself and a component of a greater whole. This piece has enabled me to work as both a straight documentarian and as a creator, photographing the subject as both a record and an artwork. I aim to see not just the physical properties of the subject, but also its soul.

As an artist, I love using multiple mediums within my work to create something beautiful and interesting. I achieve this by merging photography with other forms of art, such as paper cutting, to create new and exciting pieces that can be displayed. I am especially keen on adding different elements to my photography to make it more interactive and less 2D. Moving forward with my work, I would love to keep going with fashion photography and art collaboration to create more unique work that I am really proud to display.

Amy Jayne BrownStigmatism
My work Stigmatism is focused around the stereotypes that young people face. With great success, the media manages to manipulate its wide audience to think very negatively of young people. This creates a toxic view of all young people, when in fact it is more likely just a minority. Through negative footage broadcast worldwide, or disheartening news that spreads rapidly, the media have ingrained into people of all ages that young people generate nothing but negative news. Exploring these stereotypes, I have included people from different backgrounds, all with different circumstances, to see if they are what they are described to be or if people are too judgmental towards young people solely because the media told them to be. I hope my interactive piece 'Stigmatism' encourages people to come forth with honesty and encourages the audience that its not all young people, its only a few.

Bethany MitchellVogue Gone Rogue
Since studying photography, fashion has always stood out to me. It’s bright, it’s bold, it’s everywhere. But there is still so much more I want to see. This work is an exploration of this concept, to push fashion in my own way, inspired by horror and boudoir. Fashion is provocative and I wanted to bring this forward. My aim in my creative career is to become an editorial fashion photographer and to tell stories through my images. Vogue Gone Rogue is only the beginning of this. This project is where I really found myself and figured out what I wanted to do. I met some amazing people, fumbled my way around the studio, and stressed out when things didn’t work as I’d planned. But it was so much fun. Thank you to everyone involved; Sami (and Betty), Ash, Gee, Kelton, Elise, Vicky, Jonny, Frank, and the snakes.

Grace EdeOur Mam
As a child, I was always interested in looking through our family photo albums and archives and learning the stories captured within each image. I have found there was always a sadness tied to this as these memories will one day be forgotten. This intrigue in memory through photographs is the basis of my photographic career and has pushed me forward with my craft to capture other people’s memories within my work. In my new project, Our Mam, I wanted to further this passion by working with my four aunts to showcase the memory of their mother, my ‘Little Nanna’. By curating something beautiful that showcases photographs, found text and past items once owned by her within a book, my hope is that my family can keep this for generations.

Holly TatePeople and I
My project focuses on getting people to show their true selves and their personalities in photographs. For this project, I have been on a journey of discovery in understanding what it takes to get to know people personally and professionally. I have come to understand the challenges people face having their photographs taken, as it can be quite daunting. I have tried to explore this through getting them to open up and be more comfortable around me and the camera. For someone to open up and begin to show their true self is a positive for a photographer, but having their personality shine through is a real achievement which makes the image much more personal to both them and the photographer. I hope I can continue to achieve this throughout my career as a photographer.

Jade ArmstrongShop It
'Shop' It is a series of fashion images that come together to create a catalogue showcasing a range of products. Today we rarely use catalogues when purchasing, with the majority now online and all images viewed virtually. In my project I wanted to bring the catalogue back and let consumers physically look through the pages rather than just scrolling. One of my main goals with this project was that the images showed a true representation of what the products looked like in real life, without the editing which goes into so much of the industry today. Since completing this project I am intending to take my fashion work further, building a career in the subject where people will see my images in catalogues, magazines, clothing websites, social media and more.

Jade RobinsonSociety As We Know It
'Society As We Know It' is a project designed to show the way that corporations have slowly taken over our lives. To demonstrate this message I created a series of black and white images in every day environments, which I then illustrated in colour over the top to portray how these big businesses are such a prominent part of our world now. The goal of this project is about giving perspective to the audience showing how corporations have taken over and how we carry them with us, whilst also trying to share this message in a positive and creative way.

James TappendenMarian
My project Marian is a five-minute short film which utilises photographs to tell a story of my Grandma as she conducts her day-to-day life in the sprawls of her history-rich filled home in Norton. As you step inside her home, it hits you – the incredibly warm and welcoming sensations hold you and for a brief moment, you connect and feel the many memories which line the cracks of the tattered wooden floorboards. But the aim of this project was to look beyond that, as you tear away at the layers of this house you begin to sense something is missing. The feeling of loss, the lack of people – baron rooms filled with old toys and piles of scrapbooks. I explored the numerous rooms situated within the home; it began to reveal itself to me. This short film contains themes of isolation, grief, and loss.

John MannickSunrise at Steetley
As a landscape photographer based in Darlington I am spoilt for choice. Being so close to beautiful landscapes such as the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire moors and North East coastline, to the more urban environments of Teesside and cityscapes of Newcastle, there is no shortage of inspiring locations to choose from. My passion for searching out new places and trying to put my own style in these areas always keeps me busy. This pushes me to experiment with different compositions, different times of day and new techniques that I have developed whilst on my photographic journey. Landscape photography takes me to places that I would never have thought about visiting and this is a great motivator when having to set an alarm for 4am to catch a summer sunrise. You just can’t beat a beautiful sunrise and having the place all to yourself. The peace and quiet photographing stunning landscapes can be quite magical.

Georgia GillConflicted Colour
My photographic practice is focused on portraiture and the fashion industry. In my project Conflicted Colour, I have utilised multiple colors to create contrast and visual conflict in the images. My goal was to use colour in a variety of ways to enhance the products through a commercial advertising approach. Each photograph is designed to work both as part of the wider collection and standalone as a single image in line with fashion advertising campaigns. I am very passionate about fashion photography and intend to extend this project and continue evolving my work in this field. Fashion is such a significant part of society and through constantly learning and adapting to the industry, my goal is to develop my work in new and creative ways in order to stand out.

Georgy HarveyThe Darkest Abyss
'The Darkest Abyss' is a series of album covers and a way for me to start my journey into the genre of music photography, something I have always wanted to do. This project was created through a love of music, inspired by horror and true crime stories and, unfortunately, anger. These were my main influences for the resulting work, whilst trying to maintain the dark and moody vibe of many other rock albums created in the past. With music being such a big part of my life, I wanted to incorporate it in a creative way through my own photography and use this as my own way to enter the world of music. Through this project I have been able to explore techniques like composite work and other genres I would not have planned to incorporate in the past.

My work shows a range of styles and designs of wedding dresses and suits that men and women can wear on their wedding day. In order to explore my interest in Wedding Photography I used this opportunity to explore some creative ideas within this genre for my final major project. The goal of my work is to illustrate some of the options that men and women may want to wear for their wedding day which could be used within bridal magazines or online. By showing the different styles and designs of dresses and suits through photography, whether it’s wearing something detailed or something plain and simple, my images should hopefully allow men and women to choose what they want to wear.

Leigh MasonWomen’s Fashion Through the Decades 1950-2000
Women’s Fashion Through the Decades is a fashion and portraiture photography project to show the difference in style for women through the decades 1950 to 2000 concentrating on the main fashion trends of these decades. I wanted to choose this as my project because the style of photography that I am using is the type I am planning to go into both fashion and portraiture (also wedding photography). I also chose this as it interests me. To see how women’s style goes from being feminine to them having a lot more freedom and less styled for the male gaze.

Tabi GallantStyling Through The Ages
'Styling Through The Ages' epitomises styling progresses through time. As a portrait photographer I have always loved photographing and styling people. I love the way you can change someone's character and portrayal through a variety of means. Their personality automatically adjusts to the styling and they can feel themselves becoming more or less confident depending on how they appear on the outside. I find this notion incredibly interesting. Styling evolves constantly in regard to what society deems fashionable and I am fascinated by how trends change. This project resembles the 16th century, the 1920s, the 1980s and the 21st century. This project aims to provide awareness of the importance of styling and to portray how styling changes through time. Next time you follow a trend you see on social media remember that it will soon be out of fashion. Be unique and be proud of who you are.

Thomas CurryBold Street
When I was around nine, I have my first true memory of walking up and down Bold Street, going into (what was at the time) Quiggin’s and seeing the alternative crowds which used to flock to the popular collection of shops, creating a community. As time has gone on, we have sadly lost Quiggin’s as it was once known, however with the majority of shops attempting to relocate nearby their original store locations, it has resulted in Bold Street being littered with independent shops and businesses, again attracting those who are fans of a whole spectrum of fashion. I accredit much of my love of fashion and fashion photography to the Bold Street Community, and so the idea was born to show the current foot traffic of the area by shooting strangers met whilst walking up and down the street.
