Meet our 2022 Award Winners – Ellen Campbell, UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design
Find out more about UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design student Ellen Campbell, winner of The Northern School of Art‘s Governors’ Award, given to the student who has the most impressive work and whose work is regarded as being the ‘Best in Show’ at the School’s Middlesbrough campus end of year exhibition.
Nominating comments about Ellen’s award-winning work, see below for advertising and box designs she created as part of her project, stated: “Ellen has worked tirelessly with drive and ambition to create this politically inspired board game for her FMP reflecting the current zeitgeist. Her newly found love of graphic design and illustration … is reflected in the originality of the design of the game, the humorous characterisation of the politicians and all the components and packaging all of which were designed from scratch.”
- What is your home town and which school/college did you join the School from?
I am from Yarm and studied at Conyers Sixth Form before studying on the UAL Foundation Diploma in Art & Design course.
- Why did you choose to study at The Northern School of Art?
I wanted to test my creative limits in graphic design and illustration, something I had never previously studied.
- What’s your favourite memory of your time at the School (academically as well as socially!)
My favourite memory would have to be seeing mine and everyone’s hard work presented and completed ready for the summer show.
- What are you doing next and what are your plans/ambitions for the future?
I plan on taking a career gap year to find a higher apprenticeship as I’m career focused. My future ambitions are to work in the creative sector.
- Any advice for future students applying for the same course as you?
Be open-minded, you could find a completely new passion or new skills you never knew about!
