Access to Higher Education
The course is designed to give opportunities for those returning to education or those who do not think they have the qualifications they need to achieve a Higher Education qualification.
The course is designed for the returning, or mature (19+) student.
You will cover on the course a wide range of disciplines whilst gaining a strong understanding the design process such as, ‘drawing’, textiles, 2D and 3D communication, digital arts, art history, and study skills and support with UCAS applications.
Throughout the course professional expertise will guide you through the portfolio building processes essential for university interviews. The whole course will culminate in a final public exhibition of work.
Although there are no formal entry requirements, you will be required to bring evidence of your commitment, motivation and life skills to cope with the level of the course by providing such things as: drawings, photographs, ideas development, concept art, embroidery, craft items, and evidence of written work.
Successful completion gives you a qualification of 60 credits and the skills to progress to a wide range of degrees and higher education courses.
Career pathways at university include: Fashion, Illustration, Interior Design, Fine Art, Applied Arts, Entertainment Design Crafts, Textiles and Surface Design, Film and TV etc.
This course is accepted by a wide range of universities.
Fees: There are various ways to fund this course:
If you are aged between 19-23 this course is £1500 but if this is your first level three course (if you don’t have A-levels or a BTEC Extended Diploma) this will be free.
If you are 19-23 and in receipt of job seeker’s allowance or any other kind of benefit this course may be free (please speak to the student data team for more information)
If you are over 24 the course is £3928, but you are able to obtain an FE loan to cover the costs of this course. This is like a student loan and if you continue on to university directly after this access course, this FE loan debt is wiped.
