Eston Arts Centre features Artist Jeff Luke
Alumni & Artist Jeff Luke, from Seaton Carew will be featured in Eston Art Centres newest exhibition alongside international artists such as Damien Hirst, Ai Weiwei and topical satirist Coldwar Steve.
Speaking of the show Eston Art Centre’s director said, “It’s fantastic to be able to show art by such respected names as Damien Hirst, Ai Weiwei, Erica Eyres and Coldwar Steve in Teesside, alongside work by a recent graduate Freddy Ingoldby and Jeff Luke.
We are really pleased to be also showing a sculptural piece by Jeff Luke, who was from Seaton Carew, and is one of Teesside’s most gifted and important artists, and who died tragically young in 1995. Jeff Luke studied art at Cleveland College of Art and Design before going on to study at Byam Shaw School of Art in London. We were delighted to have the Luke family visit the exhibition recently and to learn more about Jeff Luke and his fantastic work. One family member even made us a sculpture that looked like one of Jeff Luke’s famous elastic band sculptures.”
This new show features painting, sculpture and collage and it is open until November 20th, 2021. Attributing the pieces to a development in artistic interest during the pandemic Director Kirsty Childs said: “Art has been a comfort over the last 18 months, with many taking up painting and drawing or crafting. We have been loaned some wonderful pieces of art that have been bought by art collectors in our area…we were surprised and excited to discover people collecting such varied and thought provoking contemporary art, and really pleased to have them loaned to us for the duration of the exhibition.”
The Exhibition is open until November 20th, make sure you pop down this weekend! Keep up to date with Eston Art Centre and their exhibitions by visiting their instagram: @estonartscentre
