Artists for Climate 2024 – The Artist Teacher Climate Conference
The Northern School of Art is presenting its second Annual Teachers Network Conference ‘Artists for Climate 2024′ in collaboration with partners the National Society for Education in Art and Design (NSEAD) and the North East Art Teacher Educator Network (NEATEN).
The event aimed at primary, secondary and post-16 teachers and other education professionals takes place on Thursday 6 June 2024 from 16:30 – 19:30 at the School’s Hartlepool campus at No 1 Church Street, Hartlepool TS24 7DR.
Teachers, researchers, lecturers, artists, practitioners and other stakeholders working in the areas of the arts or climate adaption or sustainable development are also being invited to submit abstracts for presentation.
About the Conference:
Together as part of the global creative community, the conference will aim to discuss climate action in the classroom and the artist teacher. The conference will welcome a range of speakers to share their experiences, good practice and thought-provoking research to continue these efforts.
Attendees will also participate in a climate action workshop in the School’s dye labs. The natural pigment workshop will look at alternative eco-friendly and sustainable techniques, brewing natural dyes and paint pigments. This two-part workshop will include a natural dye print workshop and ways for fellow artists teachers to bring this into the classroom.

Tickets cost £5+ Eventbrite booking fee. All proceeds will be donated to a climate charity. There are 65 places available (issued on a first-come first-served basis).

Call for Speakers: Artists for Climate
We invite submissions of abstracts for presentation at the Artist for Climate Conference 2024. We welcome contributions from teachers, research, lecturers, artists, practitioners, and other stakeholders working in the areas of the arts or climate adaption or sustainable development.
Topics of interest could include (but are not limited to):
1. Climate Action in the classroom
2. Student-led sustainability projects & exhibitions
3. Teacher-led sustainability projects & exhibitions
4. Climate Change Science & Impact
5. Young Voices in Sustainability
6. Climate Justice and Equity
7. Education and Communities for Climate Action
Submissions Guidelines:
· Abstract of 300 words max of presentation topic
· Brief Biography (100 words) of presenting author

Publication Opportunities:
Selected papers presented at the conference will be published in PAD ‘Perspectives in Art & Design’ Online Publication Summer Edition.

JOIN The Northern Creative Network (TNCN)
The Northern Creative Network is run by The Northern School of Art as part of its mission to promote teaching and participation in the creative subjects so that there is a secure talent pipeline to meet the needs of a growing and diverse industry. We provide:
• CPD sessions and short courses for teachers and advisers (both online and in-person)• Industry insight events which includes a weekly programme of industry speaker webinars • IAG information, specifically targeting any knowledge gaps of specific sectors e.g. stage & screen industries • Networking platform for both education and creative culture sectors• Masterclasses in techniques and other bespoke services
TNCN forms part of the School’s wider suite of outreach work. We provide a range of activities and interventions to help school’s enable young people to develop their creative and cultural capital. Our activities encompass both light-touch e.g. one-off masterclasses/workshops to more intense levels of engagement e.g. year-long Saturday Club participation.
