DESIGN WORKSHOPS INVITES YOUNG ARTISTS TO GET CREATIVE
The Northern School of Art (CCAD) is offering children and young people the chance to develop their love of all things creative with a series of art and design workshops starting from 10th September until 10th June.
The specialist art and design college on Green Lane in Middlesbrough is now offering places to the young artists for its Saturday Art Club, with a number of courses throughout the year specifically designed for those aged six to 11 and a workshop for secondary students aged 12 to 15.
The Saturday Art Clubs run each term for six weeks, allowing young people to leave after the course with a finished product, which may help them with their school work. Alternatively, students can continue with another term of the Saturday club, as the projects change every term, and includes exciting activities such as silk painting and natural printing, comics and cartoons, O-inks printmaking, art from around the world and creative textiles.
For the older students, the The Northern School of Art courses are in line with the National Art and Design and Fashion and Business Saturday Clubs, which nurture talent, build confidence and raise aspirations. They aim to help young people gain qualifications, offer them an insight into studying at college or university and give an understanding of careers in the creative industries. An average of 30 percent of Club members’ progress on to diploma, foundation or undergraduate courses.
Students will benefit from visits to museums and galleries, masterclasses from leading art and design practitioners and for those who complete the full year of courses, an exhibition of their work in London’s Somerset House.
Karen Gray, Short Course Coordinator at CCAD, said: “We are very proud to be offering such a wide range of activities for children this year at CCAD. Any budding artists and designers age 6-16 are very lucky to have this opportunity, where they can learn a completely new skill or develop an existing talent! These workshops encourage young peoples’ love for art and design and allow them to learn in a dedicated environment. Children can take home their artistic creations and for older students; the courses allow them to work at a higher level to advance their portfolio of work.”
The first course for 6-11 year olds starts on Saturday 10th September, from 10am until 1pm and courses cost £50 for the six-week duration. For 12-15 years, the workshops are free and students can select which courses are of most interest to them.
