Fine Art Student Charly Mupenga creates stunning mural for town centre Hair Salon, Chintz
Over the Easter break, BA (Hons) Fine Art degree student Charly Mupenga was commissioned by Middlesbrough Hair Salon, Chintz to create a stunning wall mural within the salon to inspire and welcome back customers after the salon’s closure due to the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.
Chintz prides itself on it’s eco, cruelty-free and sustainable stance, and wanted to commemorate this through a nature and garden inspired mural. After seeing Charly’s recent work transforming student accommodation situated on Borough Road in the town centre, Salon owner Sylvia Dennison directly commissioned the Fine Art student to make her vision come to life.
Salon owner Sylvia tells us, “We loved working with Charley, as we wanted to bring something dynamic and artistic to the salon as we feel we are creatives too! Every single customer is wowed by the mural. We commissioned a student as we really value and champion giving young people and creatives a platform as the creative industries were massively hit by the pandemic, just like us.”
“Every time I see the mural I think of Charley. We wanted a unique and bespoke feel to the mural and we were so grateful and thankful that Charley could bring our vision to life.
“We have had an extremely hard year and the salon has been shut for months, this creation has uplifted us all, like a phoenix rising through the ashes!”
Students will work in a well-equipped studio with excellent resources in addition to workshops allowing them to explore their studies properly.
