Leading agent’s support session for acting students
A leading acting agent shared invaluable advice on careers in the industry with The Northern School of Art’s BA (Hons) Acting for Stage & Screen degree students on a recent visit.
Janet Plater of Janet Plater Management Ltd, the leading professional actors agency in the North East of England, has been an agent for many years and was invited into the School to pass on her advice based on her extensive knowledge of the industry and supporting young actors.
During the session she spoke about the process of getting an agent, provided tips for CVs and answered students’ questions about working with an agent.
Acting student Dom Hehir commented, “It was great being able to gain an understanding of some routes into the stand-up comedy circuit in the northeast! It was also useful to learn about different ways of coming up with a stand-up set! In short all round great session and a welcomed laugh.”
Janet has also previously given guidance on the Acting degree programme’s curriculum offer to ensure it supports students to be industry ready when they graduate.
Established in 1997, Janet Plater Management offers professional representation and personal management to around 60 professional adult actors. In 2004, the company launched a new division, JPM Extras, to represent extras and supporting artists aged 17 and over.
After her visit Janet commented: “The students were lovely. Polite, interested and interesting. They asked intelligent questions about the industry. I look forward to seeing them without their masks in forthcoming work.”
