THE NORTHERN SCHOOL OF ART OPENS ITS DOORS AND UNVEILS NEW CREATIVE DEGREE COURSES
The first open day to be held since CCAD became The Northern School of Art is set to unveil some new additions to the wide range of creative degree courses at its University-level Campus in Hartlepool.
The School, which prides itself on being the leading provider of specialist creative art and design courses in the north, has announced a new Events and Exhibition Design BA (Hons) programme and three foundation degrees in Post-Production, Lighting & Camera and Sound Design as well its first ever postgraduate MA programme in Creative Design Enterprise.
Further details of the new courses, as well as all the degree programmes offered at The Northern School of Art’s Hartlepool campus, will be available at the Open Day on Saturday, 29 September 2018 from 10:00 to 14:00.
Prospective students can get an insight into careers in the creative industries with a series of talks as well as sessions on the finance options that are available to students.
Drop-in sessions giving advice on portfolios and interviews are on offer for students planning to apply to creative courses at any institution.
Visitors can also take a tour of one of the accommodation facilities that offer fully furnished, self-catered rooms. The School has also opened a newly-refurbished block of student apartments just a short stroll away from the campus.
Pat Chapman, The Northern School of Art’s Vice Principal (Employability and External Relations) said: “The Northern School of Art offers students a unique creative environment and community in which they can develop their skills and prepare for a career in the ever expanding creative industries.
“They get access to excellent specialist facilities and equipment with the highest quality teaching and technical support, together with the opportunity to work with industry and cultural partners of national and international repute.”
“All our students and graduates have free access to specialist support for employability and enterprise which has been recognised at a national level for its quality – this package is why our graduates have such a great success record when they leave us.
“The Northern School of Art was one of only two north eastern institutions awarded the Teaching Excellence Framework (TEF) Gold accolade for full time undergraduate teaching in 2017, an achievement it attributes to the high contact time and specialist support it offers students.”
It was subsequently ranked as the best amongst similar arts institutions for student satisfaction in the 2018 National Student Survey (NSS).
The School provides work experience and career and business coaching to students and for the past four years at least 96% of the School’s graduates have been in employment or further studies six months after they graduated.
This puts it amongst the best performing in the country for any subject, with 83% of 2016 graduates in professional or managerial positions by January 2017– outstripping the UK rate for all graduates (71%) and the UK average for art and design graduates (61%).
