Wintertide 2018
Wintertide Festival is an independent festival ran by volunteers from the Headland Festival Group. The aim is to bring the community together to celebrate local heritage, arts and culture and showcase local talent.
Now in its fourth year Wintertide Festival 2018 returned last weekend with the opening lantern parade and closing with a fabulous fireworks finale display.
The weekend was full of activities, crafts and handmade wares, festive market, performances, live music, funfair and much more. The event was spread across numerous sites on the Headland a such as the Heugh Battery Museum, Croft Gardens, St Hilda’s Church and the town square.
Students from Art and Design Level 3 and Access to HE created and showcased some stunning artworks – huge models of mythical sea creatures and some gorgeous painted and printed fabric banners. They were responding to a live brief which was exceptional real world experience of deadlines and dealing with a client. The event was attended by over 8,000 punters which was a fantastic experience for our students.
