College-level Film students visit Middlesbrough production company Wander Films!
College-level film students studying on our UAL Extended Diploma in Film & TV Production had the exciting opportunity to visit Middlesbrough based production studio Wander last month. Co-founded by ex-student CEO Chloë Clover, who was recently listed in Forbes 30 Under 30, the company creates “branded content like; Intro Vids, TV Ads, Social Ads, Docu-series, Case Studies, Testimonials, Podcasts and tons more.” The company was also selected as a Pact Future30 company, for being one of the UK’s most exciting production companies.
Trips like these under-pin our diploma courses which seek to offer students real-life experiences working with professionals in their future industries. Lecturer Katt Mudd explains “during the trip students were able to have a go in their studio set up and ask questions about Wander and find out more about the production company operating from Middlesbrough.”
Second year film student Lucy said she “found the visit really interesting and informative. It showed me what working in the film industry can be like, and now I have a better understanding of it. The people we spoke to were also really nice”
The students where able to gain insight into the logistics and planning that go in to one project, student Owen reflected “I found the visit very interesting looking at how much planning and pre production goes into a 30 minute BBC documentary was really informative. Moreover I liked finding out how they started and how the business has just grew to what it is now and still growing which was nice.”
The students where able to take part in different exercises and tasks student Jacob said; “the trip to Wander was a great insight into the workings of a local film production company, and was a great chance to get hands on with different audio, lighting and camera kit with the short interview exercise.”
He also highlighted the importance of speaking to the team for advice and building connections; “It was also great to be able to ask questions about their work and get advice going into our future projects and making connections with the company which will be useful as we work towards FMP.”
