College-level students visit Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studios
Students from our UAL Extended Diplomas in Film, Costume, Textiles and 3D enjoyed a trip down to London to visit Warner Brothers Harry Potter studios! This annual trip allows our young students to explore the fantastic sets and costumes of the film. Scroll to see some images of the trip and find out more.
Visits like these are important research trips for the students who will start a series of projects and live briefs next term. UAL Extended Diploma in 3D Design (Interiors, Architecture & Productions Lecturer Jack Pratt commented on how the trip will be useful for his students over the coming weeks, he said; “The Warner Bros Studio Tour in London is quickly becoming a staple trip of the course for our first year’s set design project. Students will use this trip to contextualise the skills they are learning in preparation for building their own film sets in a few weeks time.”
Student Izzy Wood commented on getting to see details of the production close-up and reflecting on what working in this industry might look like post education:“I enjoyed seeing the different props and costumes more closely then how you would see them in the film, I think it has inspired me creatively because it was inspiring to see all of the props and sets that are made by people who also have an interest in film- and have been able to actually participate in the production of one.”
First Year student Tishe Otedola commented on how the trip has inspired her practice, “I particularly enjoyed the Forbidden Forest; the set design was immersive and fantastical, and I liked the realism of Buckbeak. The tour made me realise the importance of set design and props in filmmaking which is something I will be taking more seriously in my own projects. Overall, visiting the studio was an amazing experience and I would love to revisit in the future.” Speaking of her experience on our UAL Extended Diploma in Film & TV Production course she continued “I think the best thing about learning film in this school is the variety of topics we cover and the space we have to experiment.”
