Students on our Fine Art, Photography and Textiles degree programmes jetted off to Barcelona this month, a wonderful start to the term visiting the cultural capital to gather references and research for their upcoming projects. Students explored historical sites and creative institutions such as the Joan Miró Foundation, Fundació Antoni Tàpies Foundation, MACBA Museum of Contemporary Art Barcelona and the Picasso Museum. Students also had the freedom to conduct their own self-directed research taking in the culture, sounds and sights of the famous city.

Student Megan Bingham – who has shared a visual diary of the trip below – commented “It was wonderful being surrounded by great artists, both artists who have gone down in history and artists who have yet to be discovered! I am so grateful to be in an institution that allows me such opportunities, and that nurtures such brilliant creatives.”

The course combines programmes on these important research trips to foster community and collaboration, students combining talents across courses for projects is something the institution champions. Speaking of travelling with other students Megan continued “It was an honour to be surrounded by other courses and years, I have many things to learn from them.”

Speaking of the trip course leader Dr Tony Charles commented it was “an extremely successful Barcelona trip that provided important experience and creative inspiration for the students alongside some great fun and socialising between everyone that has forged new relationships.” Students studying our degree programmes have a number of opportunities to take part in cultural and international trips like this to help inform student’s practices and gain insights into different creative fields on or more international scale.
