Hannah’s spell-binding set enchants browsers in Europe’s biggest bookshop
An installation by a graduate of The Northern School of Art‘s specialist film and theatre set design course is enchanting book-buyers in Europe’s biggest bookstore.
Hannah Postlethwaite, pictured below, who graduated from the School’s BA Hons in Production Design for Stage and Screen degree course in 2018, has recreated the workshop featured in the best-selling magical novel ‘The Binding’ by Bridget Collins, published by Harper Collins, for Waterstones Piccadilly.
The six-floor central London bookshop, pictured below, commissioned Hannah to create the set to showcase the title, described as ‘the most captivating novel of 2019’, which is its book of the month for January.
Unveiled at the start of the year to great acclaim, Hannah’s set is creating quite a stir with visitors to the store.
Hannah’s installation for The Binding follows hot on the heels of the replica of the guinea pig cafe from Fleabag she created for Waterstones Piccadilly which hit the headlines in national media at the end of 2019.
Reflecting on her time at The Northern School of Art, Hannah said: “The Production Design degree course helped me get to know my strengths by allowing me to try lots of different routes and practices.
“It was flexible enough to also allow me to take on outside work during term to increase my contacts and experience. Everything I do now is a knock-on effect from making contacts while I was at the School and the staff were very supportive.”
