Illustration graduate working to inspire northern creatives
A recent illustration graduate from The Northern School of Art has been speaking about how she is helping to inspire young northern artists.
Liz Carter, who studied on the School’s BA Hons BA (Hons) Illustration for Commercial Application degree, was being interviewed by BBC Upload about her work and her career plans now she has finished her degree.
In a far reaching interview with BBC Radio Newcastle’s Tamsin Robson Liz explained that she is currently part of a team running workshops to provide positive support and encouragement for young creatives in her local area.
“At school art was one of the subjects I did well in,” Liz said. “When it came to creativity I just felt really comfortable and confident.
“But art is one of those things in school and society in general that you are often discouraged from pursuing so it took me a couple of years to decide to study it after I left school.”
Liz, who is establishing herself as a freelance illustrator, studied on a foundation degree course before joining The Northern School of Art’s illustration degree course where she said she’d “never felt so accepted and understood in a creative community. Everyone is always out to help each other”.
She added: “The facilities are great and the lecturers are so helpful. The have really inspiring life stories about their careers and what they’ve done and achieved so you’re seeing yourself in what they’re saying and thinking wow I can go and do that.”
